The 2023 World Travel Awards have announced their winners for South America. These awards are considered by travel industry experts to be the industry’s most prestigious and recognized accolades and are also known as the “Oscars of the Travel Industry”. This year’s vote received more than two million votes from around the world. Votes and awards are then decided by an international jury of tourism experts and peers.
In 2023, Peru is recognized as the first tourist destination on the continent. In 2021, Argentina and in 2022 Chile had received this award. The third-largest country in South America by land area after Brazil and Argentina, Peru was also selected as a top culinary and cultural destination, two other awards that value history as much as gastronomy. Machu Picchu was also named best attraction this year, defending the distinction he held since the last edition of the “Oscars of tourism”.
Brazil has been awarded as the main cruise destinationwhile the main destination for adventure tourism is Chile.
San Andrés, Colombia, received the award for best beach destination. Guayaquil, Ecuador received the “Oscar of the Travel Industry” as the top city stay destination, while Quito was voted the top city stay destination.
Santiago de Cali in Colombia is the first city of cultural destination, Paraguay is the main nature destination. The prize for best honeymoon destination goes to San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina, and the best hotel of the year is the Copacabana Palace, a Belmond hotel, located in Rio de Janeiro.
