First airline in Central Europe and third European low cost behind Ryanair and easyJet, the Hungarian Wizz Air boasts of being the one who “ fastest growing ». But its high-speed development is taking place in the absence of respect for passenger rightsaccording to the association UFC-Que Choisir.
In the event of a problem, Wizz Air is not available to subscribers! In the event of a delay or cancellation, its customers who requested compensation – as recommended by the regulations on passenger rights in the European Union – did not obtain any. In principle, Wizz Air is exposed to reports of breaches as well as administrative fines. But this threat is not enough, it seems, according to the consumers’ association.
“ Do not rely on the usual contacts to assist you », warns UFC-Que Choisir in an article recently published on its site. And to quote a lawyer from the European Consumer Center France, a network which helps individuals resolve their disputes with professionals located in Europe: “ We have not received any responses from this company since December 2021. Our Hungarian counterparts are trying to reestablish contact, but so far without success.. »
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) also failed, according to UFC-Que Choisir. At the end of December 2022, she sent a letter to Wizz Air, criticizing it for the lack of response to three referrals sent the same year, when more than 200 files were outstanding. She also summoned representatives of the Hungarian low cost company to its premises on February 22, 2023. “ A reminder of the regulations was carried out and commitments were made by the company. It is clear that they were not respected », indicated, in September 2023, the DGAC to UFC-Que Choisir.
