The best hotel in the world is Passalacqua, an 18th-century villa on the shores of Lake Como, Italy. The villa hotel is the former home of the composer Vincenzo Bellini. Rates start at over €1,300 per night. The leading hotel in France is in 26th place for the Maybourne Riviera in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.
This is according to the organization 50 Best World Hotels, which announced the results of the “50 best hotels in the world” in London.
A ranking based on 580 “voters”
This is the first time the organization has looked at hotel rankings, although it has been ranking the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” and “World’s 50 Best Bars” for years.
The rankings are based on nominations made by 580 anonymous voters including travel journalists, hoteliers and luxury travelers from around the world, the organization said.

The voting system
Voters, spanning nine regions around the world, nominate the seven best hotels they have stayed in over the past two years, in order of preference. Votes are limited to three establishments within the same hotel group, according to the regulations.
Voters can nominate hotels of their choice, regardless of size, facilities or location.
