However, the opening of this base will only be done on two conditions, explains the specialist in regional services in its press release: “if traffic growth continues and especially if the company is awarded public service delegation lines following the consultation currently underway“.

For this summer season, Volotea connects Corsica and the continent through 29 routes, including 16 exclusive, connecting 9 major French cities, such as Brest, Bordeaux, Caen, Lille, Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, Strasbourg and Toulouse, to the four Corsican airports: Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi and Figari. It has recorded good performance to date over the June-July period with more than 270,000 passengers transported (i.e. a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2018) on nearly 1,800 flights, with an occupancy rate reaching 94% on average.

In the space of a decade, its offer of seats in Corsica has increased sevenfold, from 200,000 in 2011 to more than 1.1 million today. On the strength of these results, the regional company wishes to develop on the Isle of Beauty and plans 10 new connections from a Corsican base and more than 1.5 million seats offered over the next three years.

Volotea is firmly committed to supporting the continued development of the air network in Corsica. The opening of a new base in Corsica would be a major step in the history of Volotea and we are convinced that this investment will play a key role in the dynamism and the economic influence of the region. We are proud today to offer a growing offer of seats and new destinations to facilitate the connection between the island and the mainland.“, says Carlos Muñoz, CEO and founder of Volotea.
