Vietnam Airlines and theSingapore Tourism Board signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for two years, from 2023 to 2025, to leverage the resumption of outbound tourism in Vietnam and some popularity of Singapore as a destination of choice for Vietnamese.

As part of the MoC, the two parties will launch joint marketing campaigns to promote the new offerings of Singapore and Vietnam Airlines as a preferred airline for Vietnamese travelers. Vietnam is currently among Singapore’s top ten tourism markets, with more than 280,000 visitors in the first seven months of 2023. This is an increase of 123% compared to the same period last year. Before the pandemic, Vietnamese visitor arrivals in Singapore saw steady growth of up to 13% year-on-year, demonstrating the growth potential of the market.

Singapore is also a strategic market for Vietnam Airlines in Southeast Asia. More than 7 million passengers have traveled between the two countries with the Vietnamese national airline since the launch of the first Vietnam-Singapore route more than 30 years ago. It currently operates 35 flights per week between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) and Singapore.

In 2022, the total number of passengers carried by Vietnam Airlines on routes to Singapore crossed the 290,000 passenger mark. In the first seven months of 2023, VNA carried 266,000 passengers, 2.4 times more than in the same period the previous year.

This collaboration is a first between the Vietnamese national airline and a national tourism organization. It also coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Vietnam in 2023, as well as the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
