Trenitalia France has announced that from September 4 it is temporarily suspending all its connections between Lyon and Paris due to the impossibility of ensuring rail maintenance of its trains.
The detachment of 10,000 m3 of rocks in the Maurienne valley has cut rail traffic on the international line linking France to Italy since Sunday August 27. At this time, no date is planned for the resumption of service.
The French subsidiary of the Italian operator argues that this obstacle prevents trains from going to the Milan workshops, which is why Trenitalia has chosen to also suspend the national services with which it has been in competition with SNCF since April 2022 .
The announcement, made earlier today, sparked criticism of the liberalization of passenger rail in France, as trains must travel to Italy for maintenance rather than to SNCF facilities.
