Italy confirms itself as one of the main tourist destinations in the world and expects to match or even exceed pre-pandemic results. France represented 16.8% of foreign tourism in Italy, according to ENIT (Italian National Tourist Office).

With forecasts of a significant increase in terms of presence, arrivals and tourist spending, the tourism sector as a whole (tourism and related sectors) represents 13% of Italian GDP. This year, the key factor in this strong recovery is the great return of international visitors, including the French.

France alone therefore represents 16.8% of foreign tourism in Italy. For the first quarter 2023ENIT estimates 2,515,000 French tourists in Italy compared to 2,480,000 in the first three months of 2019.

For the same period, international spending in Italy amounted to 6.8 billion, of which 56% came from Europe, with France representing 10.5% of the total. Spending by French people traveling to Italy in the first quarter of 2023 is up 55.2% compared to 2022 and 12% compared to the pre-pandemic volume.

In Italian airports, for the summer period from June to August 2023, 97,000 French passengers were expected, France being the second country of origin after the United States with 6.1% of the total number of air passengers arriving at summer 2023.

If leisure still represents one of Italy’s main attractions, the two other growing sectors remain luxury and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions), a sector in which the country rises to second position among destinations. in Europe and in third place worldwide.
