Tourism: drop in attendance in Corsica this summer

In Corsicathere tourist attendance has indeed declined this summer, with a loss of 143,000 vacationers.

Some 1.67 million travelers thus reached the island by plane or boat in August, a volume down from 2022 (-4%) and 2019 (-8%), the last pre-Covid year, according to the figures from the Corsican Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The month of July had also seen the number of travelers drop compared to 2022 (-4%) but this attendance was up (+4%) compared to 2019.

In total, 143,000 fewer travelers visited the Isle of Beauty in July-August 2023 compared to 2022, 85,000 fewer travelers compared to 2019.

These summer declines are partly offset by a sharp increase in attendance on the island in the first quarter, by 12 points compared to 2022 and four points compared to 2019. This increased presence of off-season travelers allows travel professionals to hope for a staggering of the tourist season in Corsica, which until recently was concentrated on the two summer months. Nevertheless, passenger numbers over the first eight months of the year are down 1% compared to 2022 and 2% in 2019.
