UK long-haul charter carrier Thomas Cook Airlines has announced it will launch twice-weekly services from Manchester Airport in the UK to Los Angeles and Boston in May 2016. It will also increase service frequencies on three of its other routes to U.S. destinations from Manchester.

Monarch Airlines has expanded its flight program for summer 2012, introducing new scheduled flights to Barcelona and Nice from Birmingham Airport. Monarch has also launched its first program of flights from its new UK base, East Midlands Airport, to Mediterranean leisure destinations.

The move follows the announcement that International Airlines Group (which owns British Airways and Iberia) is shutting down East Midlands Airport-based Bmibaby, a low-cost subsidiary of BMI which IAG acquired from Lufthansa along with the parent company and BMI Regional.
