The European Commission has recently launched ten new pilot projects to develop high-speed rail links between two or more European countries, with a view to encouraging rail travel on the continent. Two of them will involve Italy’s Frecciarossa.
The first concerns the development of a link between Italy, Austria and Germany, through the launch of the Rome-Munich and Milan-Munich links.
The second will concern the development of the Spain-Portugal route. Two connections are proposed in this case: one from Lisbon to A Coruña (Galicia), and the other from the Portuguese capital to Madrid. Frecciarossa will take over via Ilsa, a consortium in which Trenitalia participates and which brought the Frecciarossa to Spain under the iryo brand.
