The CEO of Costa Cruises leaves his post suddenly

Michael Thamm, one of Carnival Corp’s top executives for many years, has just stepped down as CEO of the Costa Group. The change is effective immediately.

He notably managed Costa Cruises and other companies of the Carnival group.

Michael Thamm had taken over the leadership of the Costa Group (Costa Cruises, AIDA, Iberocruceros and Carnival) in 2012, adding responsibility for Carnival Asia in 2017. In 2019 he became president of CLIA Europe.

Mario Zanetti, president of Costa Cruises, and Felix Eichhorn, president of AIDA Cruises, will report directly to Josh Weinstein, president and CEO of Carnival Corp. Michael Thamm’s position will not be filled at this time.

The group does not know how to respond to this sudden departure

“We appreciate Michael’s contributions and wish him well in the future,” a company spokesperson said. The role of CEO of the Costa Group will not be fulfilled, the company’s spokesperson said.

Sources inside and outside the company expressed surprise at his seemingly sudden departure.
