A US Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet shot down a Turkish drone over Syria. The F-16 was ordered to destroy the drone because it was in a restricted air operation zone and less than a kilometer from U.S. forces. This destruction occurred against the backdrop of Turkish drone strikes on northeastern Syria in response to a recent attack in Ankara.

Strikes in Syria

On October 5, Turkey launched several drones in northeast Syria in order to target infrastructure identified as belonging to the PKK and YPG. In total, three drone models were mobilized: ANKA, TB2 and AKINCI. These strikes were a response to the attack carried out on October 1, 2023 against official buildings in Ankara (Reuters).
