Spain: big storms over Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands

The storm, by region

On the coasts of Alicante and Valencia there will be strong storms with a probability of hail and very strong gusts of wind; also strong storms with probability of large hail and generally very strong winds.

In the region of Murcia, gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour will blow.

Also on the coast of Tarragona (Catalonia), rainfall will reach 40 liters per square meter in one hour and there will also be gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour, also in Girona.

Strong storms accompanied by large hail and generally very strong winds are also expected in this community and in Ampurdán (Girona), maritime storms with waves of 4 to 6 meters.

It will also rain in Cantabria and the Basque Country, where up to 50 liters per square meter will be collected in twelve hours.

In Aragon, up to 40 liters of rain will accumulate in the Pyrenees of Huesca and the wind in much of the community will leave gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

In Andalusia the wind will be strong with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour in the regions of Malaga, on the coast of Granada or Almería.

The Canary Islands are also on alert for gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour over much of the archipelago, as well as sea storms.

Balearic Islands: very affected

All the Balearic Islands are on orange alert (significant risk) due to bad weather throughout the archipelago. Heavy and very strong showers and thunderstorms are recorded accompanied by very strong gusts of wind or hurricanes.

This morning, showers and storms swept the island of Mallorca from west to east with winds of up to 100 km / h. The Spanish National Meteorological Agency reported thunderstorms heading west-east.

On the island of Menorca there will be gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour and also maritime storms, with waves of 4 to 6 meters as well as rissagas (transient oscillations of sea level) of almost ‘a meter.

Strong storms are expected in Ibiza and Formentera, with a probability of very strong winds in general and hail of more than 2 centimeters.
