The customers of South African Airways (SAA) can now travel to Frankfurt and connect to a host of European destinations through a new codeshare agreement between Lufthansa Airlines and SAA.

SAA codeshare on Lufthansa is now open for sale. The agreement allows customers to book long-haul travel with SAA to European destinations served by Lufthansa from johannesburg. Additionally, SAA is pleased to announce that once regulatory approval is granted, Swiss Airlines, which is also part of the Lufthansa Group, will share its code with SAA. Customers will also be able to book on the SAA codeshare on Swiss to flights from Johannesburg to Zurich and other European destinations on a single ticket.

“We are delighted to resume our codeshare agreement with Lufthansa and soon with Swiss airlines, which are both members of the STAR Alliance, the largest alliance among airlines”said Tebogo Tsimane, commercial director of SAA. “This is a key step in reconnecting our travelers across the continent to a wider range of international destinations through their SAA ticket and earning Voyager miles. »

A codeshare agreement means customers will only have to book one plane ticket and that their checked baggage will be transported smoothly to their destination. A single ticket is more cost effective and the codeshare agreement means travelers don’t have to worry about the logistics of traveling between continents on multiple airlines.

“We are very pleased to announce that we have reinstated our codeshare agreement with South African Airways”said Matthias Lefèvre, Lufthansa Group Airlines’ General Sales Manager for Southern Africa. “Building on our long-term partnership with SAA allows us to offer greater flexibility and variety to our customers in South Africa”. Lufthansa and SWISS passengers can add a connecting flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town or Durban in the same booking.

The airlines of Lufthansa group offer more than 35 weekly connections from South Africa to their hubs in Europe.
