Etihad Airways and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) have signed a codeshare partnership, strengthening connectivity between Europe and the Middle East.

At the start of October, Etihad launched a route between Abu Dhabi and Copenhagen and the new agreement will allow connections to other Scandinavian cities such as Oslo, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Bergen.

For their part, SAS passengers will be able to access Etihad network holiday destinations such as India, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Johannesburg. Customers will now be able to book a single ticket and will only need to check-in once, with their baggage checked through to the final destination.

This agreement comes after Air France-KLM acquired nearly 20% of SAS as part of its financial restructuring under Chapter 11 of the American bankruptcy law. The Franco-Dutch group now has a codeshare partnership with Etihad Airways.

The SAS and Etihad agreement follows the momentum of the partnership between Qatar Airways and Finnair aimed at increasing connectivity between the northern European region and the Middle East.
