When you first host the world’s largest LGBTQ event in the Southern Hemisphere, a natural question arises: how do you attract the crowd?
Qantas, partner of the event
And just like the city’s Mardi Gras, Sydney WorldPride is not without its very enthusiastic sponsors. Enter the event’s partner airline, which has just landed with a plane loaded with people from the northern hemisphere.

Ready to party, fresh off a flight all singing, all dancing and fully made up.
Qantas has organized a special Pride flight between Los Angeles and Sydney. All of them were on board the rather unusual Qantas “pride” flight.

Rainbow baggage tags, Qantas rainbow signs, rainbow flags and small rainbow pins become essential attributes of this flight.

Organizers must have seen 500,000 people arrive at the event
WorldPride attracted around half a million people with nearly 80,000 from outside Greater Sydney. These visitors attended over 300 events and injected $112 million into the New South Wales economy. The celebration ended on Sunday with a march on the Harbor Bridge and a closing party at the Estate. On Saturday evening, Oxford Street was turned into a street party, which continued on Sunday evening until Monday morning.
