Power outage forces terminal 1 to close at New York’s JFK airport

Many US long-haul flights have been canceled or diverted

The airport confirmed overnight that Terminal 1 will remain closed today (Friday) due to a power outage at New York JFK Airport.

JFK said some inbound flights were being sent to airports such as Newark, Boston and Washington.

Air France will arrive and depart today from New York Newark.

Other companies simply cancel

An Air New Zealand flight has turned around to return to Auckland, leaving passengers 16 hours in the air due to disruption at JFK, reported CNN .

… Norse Atlantic Airways, Air France, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Japan Airlines, TAP Air Portugal and Turkish Airlines.

Airport confirms closure of JFK Terminal 1

He confirmed that JFK Terminal 1 will remain closed today due to “electrical issues” as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey continues to work with the terminal operator to restore flight operations “on as soon as possible”.

Travelers were advised to check with their carriers for their flight status before heading to the airport.
