ONERA now has its research laboratory on Artificial Intelligence which was inaugurated by Bruno Sainjon, CEO of Onera, on November 2, 2023 at the École Polytechnique. AILab brings together more than a hundred engineers.
AILab, ONERA’s artificial intelligence laboratory
It was at the École Polytechnique on November 2, 2023 that Bruno Sainjon, CEO of ONERA, inaugurated his artificial intelligence laboratory called AILab. A transversal laboratory, without walls, AILab will bring together all of ONERA’s AI (artificial intelligence) activities, in order to optimize its research and its contribution to the benefit of aeronautics, space and defense programs.
To optimize research work
Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) has today become an important component of the research work carried out at ONERA. Built on knowledge and skills developed over many years, the AILab laboratory aims to accelerate this process and optimize it, in all ONERA research areas for the benefit of the French and European aerospace sector and programs.
A hundred engineers
The AILab laboratory brings together more than a hundred engineers and aims to bring together ONERA’s AI activities, dispersed in the different scientific departments or entities such as wind tunnels or high-performance computing, and to be a showcase for ONERA’s external partners on this subject. A place for multidisciplinary exchanges, AILab will therefore be a “one-stop shop” both internal and external, for the office’s partners, whether institutional or industrial, foreign or French. AI at ONERA covers a wide range of themes with diverse applications, which will benefit the entire aeronautics, space and defense sector.
A field that affects all of aerospace research
“It is clear that artificial intelligence, an area in which ONERA has developed real skills, now concerns all aerospace research,” commented Bruno Sainjon. “To respond to this increase in the contribution of AI, the need emerged to equip itself with a structure pursuing a dual objective: a transversal internal organization in order to optimize the tools and techniques of an AI specific to the ONERA; equip ourselves with an identified, responsive and effective interface with and for our external partners. Our ambition remains to be at the best global level, serving aerospace research and French defense,” he added.
