Niger announced yesterday the closure of its airspacein the face of the threat of intervention which is taking shape from neighboring countries“.

Faced with the threat of intervention which is becoming clearer from neighboring countries, Niger’s airspace is closed from this day on Sunday (…) until further notice“, announced yesterday a press release from the soldiers who took power in Niamey, which specifies that “any attempt to violate the airspace“will cause”an energetic and instantaneous response“.

Uncertainty remains today about a possible military intervention of the West African bloc in Niger, after criticism in two neighboring countries, Nigeria and Algeria, after the expiration of the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) ultimatum yesterday in midnight. The African organization had given seven days to the soldiers who overthrew elected President Mohamed Bazoum to restore him to office, under penalty of using “strength“. For the time being, the generals who took power on July 26 in Niamey have shown no desire to give way.
