Creation of the joint venture Nidec Aerospace LLC

Japan’s Nidec Corporation and Embraer today announced an agreement to establish a joint venture, Nidec Aerospace LLC (“JV”), to develop electric propulsion systems for the aerospace sector. The transaction combines the complementary synergies and distinct areas of expertise of two world-class engineering companies to usher in a new era of air mobility.

For urban air mobility

The joint venture aims to break new ground by offering a seamless portfolio of products and services worldwide, initially leveraging the growth of the urban air mobility (UAM) sector. Nidec Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of complete engines, will draw on Embraer’s 50 years of complementary experience in the aerospace field to design, certify, produce and market new generation electric propulsion systems based on proven technologies adapted to power more efficient and more environmentally friendly aircraft models. The joint venture will develop and manufacture the electric propulsion system for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, with the aim of providing the system to non-eVTOL vehicles in the future.

Eve Air Mobility as launch customer

Nidec Aerospace will be jointly owned by Nidec (51%) and Embraer (49%). The headquarters, located at Nidec Motor Corporation (NMC) in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, will build on both companies’ existing industrial footprint in Brazil and Mexico. Prior to beginning their collaboration, both Nidec and Embraer have a long history of technological and commercial collaboration with other global partners and have continually explored a range of sustainable concepts, prospecting technologies and markets with high growth potential to to offer greater value to their respective stakeholders. The launch customer for the joint venture’s electric propulsion system will be ADAVe (eVTOL) manufacturer Eve Air Mobility, an independent company well positioned to become a global leader in the urban air mobility (UAM) segment by proposing a new mode of efficient and sustainable urban transport.
