The storm hit New Zealand on Monday with high winds of up to 140 kilometers per hour and heavy rain. Trees fell in many places and many roads and houses were damaged. More than 60,000 homes were without electricity and many towns are still cut off from the outside world. Air, sea and rail links have been partially suspended.
