Mykonos: you can now book a boat ride with Uber

The ride-sharing company has announced that it is launching boat rides in Greece, giving vacationers and boat enthusiasts the ability to book a boat directly through the Uber app.

This option will allow up to eight people to sail to destinations around the island of Mykonos. This will be the first supported location in Greece, with potentially more to come in the future.

Uber already had “Uber Boat” in San Francisco and London

Uber has offered other boat products before, including the short-lived “Boat to Work” program in San Francisco in 2013. More recently, Uber Boat in London, which primarily caters to commuters. The London route is a partnership between Thames Clippers, London’s commuter ferry service, and Uber; tickets for Uber-branded ferries can be booked through the Uber app.

Uber needs to expand into new markets

Uber may be feeling the pressure to expand into new markets even as ridesharing rebounds from the pandemic. In the first quarter, the ride-hailing company’s first-quarter earnings beat estimates, driving the company’s stock up 7%. Uber expects to post profitable operating profit this year and maintain its workforce at the same level after the first quarter’s headcount slumped.
