The world’s largest container line by capacity, MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company), has announced that it is developing a new air cargo solution. The first plane has been delivered.

An additional freight solution

The company said it made the move in response to customer demand as a complementary service to its container shipping solutions. MSC SA said MSC Air Cargo had been in development for several months and the new solution would be available early next year following the delivery of the first of four MSC-branded Boeing 777-200F aircraft that would be operated by Atlas Air, a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc.

Jannie Davel to expand air cargo business

MSC has appointed Jannie Davel, formerly of Delta Cargo, Emirates SkyCargo and DHL, to grow its air cargo business and build the team to deliver it.

Commenting on the new initiative, MSC CEO Soren Toft said the latest development was just the first foray into the air cargo sector. “We are delighted to announce the development of MSC Air Cargo and welcome Jannie Davel to lead this exciting new offering for MSC customers. This is our first step into this market and we plan to continue exploring various avenues to develop air cargo in a way that complements our core business, container shipping”.
