In 2019, the MSC Foundation positioned itself as the first partner of the “Plastic waste for the benefit of schools” program in Côte d’Ivoire. This innovative initiative achieves a triple positive impact: the empowerment of women, the recycling of plastic waste and the education of children. Indeed, marginalized women collect plastic waste and recycle it into innovative bricks, which are then used to build modern and environmentally friendly classrooms.
Construction of a recycling plant
Thanks to its constant efforts, the MSC Foundation has enabled this program to transform the lives of thousands of children in a lasting way, giving them access to education for a better future. In addition, this program has helped remove tons of plastic waste from landfills, while empowering the most vulnerable women who have been trained in waste collection and recycling. MSC even played a key role in establishing UNICEF’s recycling plant, which turns waste into bricks.
