The Moroccan Interior Ministry made it clear in an official statement collected by Moroccan television 2M that it only accepts aid offered by Spain, the United Kingdom, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in response to the earthquake which killed more than 2,100 people in the Atlas.
Rabat justifies its decision by “the precise assessment” made of the needs after the tremors and “taking into account the fact that the lack of coordination in such situations could be counterproductive”. Regardless, the Moroccan government does not rule out requesting help from other countries if necessary.
Another earthquake hit the country this Sunday, after that of Friday which left thousands dead and injured. Furthermore, France confirms the death of four citizens and fifteen injured.
