Spain hosts the first large-scale European military deployment under MILEX-23.
In October, Spain hosted the first field force deployment exercise (LIVEX) in the waters of Cádiz as part of MILEX-23. Nearly 2,900 soldiers from 19 countries participated with the aim of improving the interoperability of armies and working on the EU’s rapid deployment capacity. This capability should be fully operational in 2025. Margarita Robles, Minister of Defense of Spain, welcomed the success of the European military crisis management exercise MILEX 23. This is a major step for the rapid deployment capability of the EU. She also underlined the willingness of participating countries in providing personnel to constitute a large-scale force.
