A new metro line connecting central Istanbul and the city’s new international airport has officially opened to the public. Very convenient for international passengers who will normally take 24 minutes to reach the center of Istanbul.

An automated line

The fully automated, driverless trains were built by a Chinese company. The 34 kilometer metro line between Kagithane Station in central Istanbul and the new international airport offers the fastest trains in Turkey. The metro can run at up to 120km/h

A reduced frequency for the moment.

The Chinese company still has to deliver many wagons to ensure a significant frequency. The vehicles operate in a 4-car formation with a maximum capacity of 1,100 passengers. The exterior of the trains is decorated with Turkish cultural elements such as tulip designs.

Inauguration by the Turkish President

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan speaking at the opening ceremony of the new metro line connecting central Istanbul and the city’s new international airport in Istanbul,

The new metro line linking IST Airport to Istanbul Center will be of great benefit to all travelers. A big congratulations for this great achievement.
