The highly anticipated reopening of the renowned LUX* Belle Mare, Mauritius – located on the wild east coast of the island, near the picturesque village of Belle Mare – took place on October 1, 2023 to welcome its first guests, after more than one year of complete renovation. On the edge of one of the most impressive coastlines in the Indian Ocean, guests returned to the iconic beach, as well as the hotel’s innovative culinary offerings, a unique collection of extraordinary experiences and regenerating wellness journeys in the famous LUX* ME Spa.

The completely redesigned hotel has unveiled a striking new design designed by renowned Mauritian architect, Jean-François Adam, while retaining its famous family spirit. The interiors, designed by internationally renowned Mauritian designer Jean-Marc Tang, reveal a contemporary ambiance and style, drawing inspiration from the hotel’s surroundings, its lush greenery and stunning ocean views. LUX* Belle Mare embodies the essence of laid-back island living, where minimalism meets tropical design.

A RE-THINKED ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

Mauritian architect Jean-François Adam has completely redesigned the hotel’s timeless architecture, which incorporates a compelling minimalist design while retaining its own traditional spirit. Inspired by the sublime environment of LUX* Belle Mare, the 174 suites and 12 unique villas are contemporary and elegant, offering a luxurious living space, both spacious and private, which is part of the heritage and ethics family of the island. Jean-François Adam redesigned and raised the roof structures to create grandeur and height, maximizing natural light that promotes indoor and outdoor living.

Subtle touches by Mauritian designer Jean-Marc Tang are scattered throughout the hotel, inviting guests to enter a vacation setting from the moment they arrive, taking a lush path surrounded by tropical plants that leads them to the Lobby and a view panoramic view of the beach. Every element of the design has been carefully considered and has an interesting story behind it; from the Riyadh-style lobby with its arches covered in hand-glazed tiles, to the pink-colored Aperitivo Bar with its counter made of reclaimed sand tinted pink, to the ceiling’s centerpiece of red ribbons and lanterns hanging at the Duck Laundry and the natural dye-painted frescoes, inspired by traditional Indian folk art, inside the Amari by Vineet restaurant.

CULINARY CREATIONS

The variety of gastronomy returns through five exclusive restaurants offering a wide range of cuisines, including Indian, Chinese, Mediterranean and classic international. Offering a casual dining experience, Beach Rouge – the iconic LUX* beach club concept – offers fresh Mediterranean cuisine for lunch and dinner, with stunning ocean views. Michelin-starred chef Vineet Bhatia’s signature Amari restaurant is a must-visit. It offers a modern interpretation of the rich Indian heritage, in a natural pink decor with contemporary frescoes.

The renowned ‘Duck Laundry’ offers modern Chinese dishes and chef-crafted tasting menus complemented by house specialties like Peking duck, dim sum and Sichuanese dishes. Adjacent to the swimming pool, in the heart of the hotel, the MONDO restaurant, open all day, offers a selection of international dishes and a buffet dedicated to children to satisfy all tastes. There are several stalls with live cooking and a pizza chef cooking pizzas in the central stone oven. Its private conservatory offers an outdoor dining space with European-inspired wall trellises.

For a quick but delicious lunch or afternoon snack, diners can head to Royce Street, where a vintage 1933 Rolls-Royce Limousine Hooper offers exceptional Southeast Asian cuisine. The elegant Maison LUX* makes its debut at the hotel for lovers of premium coffee and delicious specialties, while original cocktails using local ingredients can be enjoyed at the Mixologist Lounge Bar, overlooking the pool of 2,000 m², one of the largest in Mauritius. Guests are also invited to discover the “Keen on Green” concept, an impressive offering present on each menu with dishes based on plants and local products.

CUSTOMIZED WELL-BEING

A holistic approach to well-being is a key element in the design of LUX* ME Wellbeing and the LUX* ME Spa. The five elements: earth, water, fire, air and space are the bases of the wellness courses offered to guests. With particular attention to rebalancing, each journey is tailored to individual needs, combining mindfulness activities, relaxing spa treatments and movements such as suspension training, aerial massage, as well as aquatic therapies.

Hosts can design their own Wellness immersion program, lasting 3, 5 or 7 days. In addition to Kinesis cardio and strength training equipment, the fitness center offers Technogym’s brand new modular functional strength training system – Universe – a first in Africa and the Indian Ocean. Niyama Private Studio offers Pilates classes, while Niyama Garden offers sunrise yoga, fitness and wellness classes.
