Incessant rains have caused flooding in five Malaysian states, with the southern state of Johor being the most affected (close to Singapore).

More than 31,000 people have been moved to 232 temporary relief centers across the country as the weather agency predicted continued heavy downpours through Saturday.

All 10 districts of Johor were affected by the floods, with more than 29,000 victims seeking refuge in 193 flood relief centres.

Johor State Secretary Azmi Rouhani said it was one of the worst disasters to flood the state in recent years, attributing it to continuous heavy rains and the phenomenon of high tide.
