Madeira fire still out of control?

The fire that broke out yesterday in Prazeres Calheta activated all firefighters on the island of Madeira. The fire raging in the municipality of Porto Moniz, Madeira, has lost intensity, but is not completely under control.

The fire initially broke out on Wednesday, around 6 p.m., in the parish of Prazeres. The fire spread during the night to the adjacent parish of Fajã da Ovelha and, later, to the parishes of Ponta do Pargo and Achadas. da Cruz, and is already in the municipality of Porto Moniz.

The government of Madeira declared an emergency situation on Thursday due to the fires raging in the region, thus activating the Regional Civil Protection Emergency Plan, the Regional Civil Protection Service announced.

There are 92 operational personnel from the volunteer firefighters of Calheta, Câmara de Lobos, Madeirenses, Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol, São Vicente and Porto Moniz, Santana, Sapadores do Funchal, Sapadores de Santa Cruz, municipalities of Machico, helicopter brigade, forest . The police, the GNR, the Portuguese Red Cross and the regional command of rescue operations, supported by 26 vehicles and air assets, inform the Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM.

“The Regional Secretary of Health and Civil Protection, accompanied by the Board of Directors of the Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM, the President of the Municipality of Calheta and the Municipal Civil Protection Service, follows the work carried out in the management of this fire, as well as the situation regarding the fire of Curral das Freiras, in the Seara Velha area, where 10 members of the Câmara de Lobos volunteer firefighters with 4 vehicles are involved,” reads the note sent to the editorial staff.
