Parts of the famous Inca ruined city of Machu Picchu in Peru are currently closed to visitors. These are the temple of the Condor, the temple of the Sun and the Intihuatana.

The head of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco called on the public to participate in the maintenance of these archaeological and natural areas which represent the country’s heritage.

Maritza Rosa Candia, head of the Cusco Ministry of Culture, confirmed that three sectors of Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the world located in the Cusco region, will be closed due to the wear and tear of the lithic elements. Candia believes that “high tourist traffic is to blame for the wear and tear of Machu Picchu.” She stressed that this damage is irreparable and irreversible. It is for this reason that she called on the public to take care of Peru’s cultural heritage.
