THE transport in Italy are strongly disrupted this Friday due to a national strike of private and public employees to demand salary increases in the face of inflation.

Four major unions have called their members for a full-day strike. Airports, ferries, trains and local public transport are among the sectors affected by the national mobilization throughout Italy.

The airline company ITA Airways has already canceled 20 domestic flights scheduled between 9 p.m. yesterday and 9 p.m. today. These mainly involve rotations on connections between Rome-Fiumicino airport and the airports of Bologna, Florence and Venice. For its part, Air Malta has canceled its services to Milan and Naples. As provided for by Italian law, a minimum service is put in place on domestic routes, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
