In Lisbon, the far right is coming to the top…

The Portuguese “Chega” (Enough) party, chaired by André Claro Amaral Ventura, will organize a world summit in Lisbon in May with several leaders of far-right parties.

Former Brazilian President Jair Messias Bolsonaro and Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini have already accepted an invitation to the major world summit scheduled for May 13-14.

The presence of Bolsonaro, Salvini and many other leaders of the European right makes Lisbon one of the most prominent new right-wing centers in Europe.

In January 2022, the Socialist Party of Portugal won an unexpected majority and the Social Democrats came second, but Chega gained support and became the third largest party in parliament. Last March, Amaral Ventura told reporters that he would also like to invite Marine Le Pen and Geert Wilders from the Netherlands, leaders of far-right parties in their respective countries.
