Tammy was a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 80 mph Friday evening, centered about 55 miles east of Martinique, the National Hurricane Center said. It is expected to slowly strengthen as it passes through the Leeward Islands.
Tammy was forecast to move near or over parts of the Leeward Islands through Saturday evening, then move north of the northern Leeward Islands on Sunday.
