At least 27 people have died in Acapulco, Mexico, from Hurricane Otis. The famous tourist resort was completely devastated by the destructive force of the Category 5 typhoon, which hit the southern Pacific coast last Wednesday.
About 80% of Acapulco’s hotels were affected by Otis, according to Guerrero state governor Evelyn Salgado, who activated a service to support tourists and move them to other areas free of charge.
Acapulco International Airport, hard hit by the storm, will remain closed until October 30 due to the destruction of control towers, but the runways remain in good condition and test takeoffs will be carried out as soon as possible to assess the resumption of commercial flights.
