A terrifying sandstorm invaded a large part of Jordanian territory on Sunday. The wind left in its wake a dense cloud of dust which not only reduced the visibility of the population, but also had a negative impact on air quality.
This phenomenon, which mainly affected the Azraq region, caused concern and some chaos in several urban areas, including the capital, Amman, as well as in neighboring towns and villages. Social media users took it upon themselves to share images and videos of the natural phenomenon.
The sandstorm started in the desert region of southwest Syria and moved east, affecting Jordan in its path.
The impact of these sandstorms goes beyond discomfort, lack of visibility and mobility difficulties. Inhaling dust and sand particles can be harmful to health, especially for people with pre-existing respiratory problems.
