The Glenmere mansion, built in 1911 as the home of the Goelet family and nestled in the rolling hills of the lower Hudson Valley in New York state, has opened as a new ultra-luxury hotel.

Offering 19 rooms and suites, Glenmere sits atop 150 landscaped acres in Chester, New York. It has been completely restored to offer modern luxury in the surroundings of the original Italianate mansion. Guest rooms, now available for reservation, range in price from $550 to $3,500 per night. Glenmere is less than 50 miles from New York City.

Designed by architects Carrere & Hastings, Glenmere was originally fashioned as a 35-room Tuscan villa with a central open cortile and majestic interior details including marbled column porticos and sweeping interior and exterior staircases. A painstaking restoration has returned Glenmere to its original condition.

Glenmere’s accommodations include deluxe and superior bedrooms, junior suites, and five premium suites. No two are alike. One-of-a-kind furnishings, sumptuous beds, and fine antiques combine with art from a private collection to create eclectic environments. Most rooms have working fireplaces, and many offer terraces with open views of Glenmere’s grounds, gardens and the lake and hills beyond.

All guest accommodations feature custom-designed Italian linens; marble baths with heated floors; and state-of-the art audiovisual equipment, including Bluetooth-compatible flat-screen TVs, DVD players, iPod docking stations and high-speed internet access.

In the Supper Room, Glenmere’s intimate dining room, candle-lit tables are situated among a collection of antiques and modern furnishings, surrounded by custom-made, hand-painted eglomise panels depicting the hills of Tuscany.
