THE Number of passengers continues to growhong kong international airportincreasing by 14.9% in July 2023 compared to the same month last year, with a total of 3.8 million travelers recorded on departure and arrival.
According to operator Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), the daily traffic average in July exceeded 120,000 travellers, recovering to 60% of pre-pandemic levels. In July, aircraft movements and cargo throughput saw monthly increases of 7.4% and 1.7%, respectively, to 24,030 movements and 361,000 tonnes.
Compared to July 2022, passenger volume has increased eightfold while flight movements have doubled. All passenger segments experienced significant growth, with passenger traffic continuing its steady recovery. Traffic to and from Southeast Asia, mainland China and Japan recorded the most substantial increases.
In the first seven months of 2023, Hong Kong International Airport handled 20.4 million passengers, up 15 times from the low level recorded in the same period of 2022, when authorities in Hong Kong maintained a strict policy “zero-Covid“, by closing the borders of the territory.
