An incident as spectacular as it is rare happened at the airport of Dublinwhere the collapse of a gangway caused the door of a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner of the airline to be ripped off American Airlines. No one was hurt.
The American company’s 787-8 registered N812AA was preparing on July 9, 2023 to operate flight AA723 between the Irish capital and Philadelphiawith an unknown number of passengers (who had just boarded) and crew on board.
For some reason that will have to await the results of the investigation, the walkway attached to Terminal 2 (gate 400C) collapsed, literally tearing the gate L2 from the plane.
Dublin Airport Manager AAD took up the case, the flight being obviously cancelled.
American Airlines Boeing 787-8 (N812AA, built 2015) sustained damage to its passenger door L2 at Dublin-Intl Airport when the adjacent airbridge at gate 400C suddenly gave way and collapsed ripping off the entire door on its way down. No one was injured. The return flight #AA725… pic.twitter.com/QOSYWbtmR8
