In September 2023THE price of plane tickets from France are in increase of +6.1% compared to September 2022, all destinations and travel classes combined, according topassenger air transport price index (IPTAP) of the Ministry of Ecological Transition also responsible for Transport.

Departing from mainland France, after two months of decline, plane ticket prices are up compared to their level of the previous year (+5.8%). The increase is more significant on the domestic network (+14.4%) while it is more measured on the international network (+4%).

On the indoor network, prices are up +18.8% on intra-metropolitan routes with a significantly more pronounced increase on radial routes compared to transverse routes. Towards Overseas, the increase in prices is +13.2%, masking a contrasting situation in particular between increases in the overseas departments (the largest being observed in Guyana) and a decrease towards Polynesia .

Internationally, after two months of decline, prices are up again by +4% with a slightly more marked increase on long haul (+4.8%) than on medium haul (+3%). For the medium-haul international network, the increase is driven by the European Economic Area/Switzerland/United Kingdom cluster (+7.3%). The Other Europe and North Africa and Levant bundles are down (-2.4% and -7.1% respectively). For the latter, this trend is mainly driven by the declines observed in Algeria and Tunisia, hiding increases observed on certain services, notably Israel and Morocco.

For the international long-haul network, the increase is driven mainly by sub-Saharan Africa (+8.4%) in particular due to the geopolitical situation in this sector which leads to an extension of flight time to certain destinations on the African continent. Slight increases are observed in North America (+0.8%) and Asia Pacific (+0.3%), which however mask a contrast between a clear drop in Business class and an increase in Economy class. . Latin America shows a general decrease (-5.7% in total), in both Business and Economy class. The Middle East, for its part, is down slightly (-0.5%) resulting from the drop in Economy class mitigated by the increase in Economy class.

Departing from all overseas departmentsr, the increase in plane ticket prices reached 10% in September, i.e. a level lower than that observed in the direction of Metropolitan France towards Overseas. This development remains contrasted depending on the departments: high for the Antilles (+17.0% in Martinique and +19.1% in Guadeloupe), more moderate for Guyana (+7.6%), almost stable for Reunion (+ 0.1%), and down slightly on Mayotte (-0.7%) and according to the types of connections (increase for connections to the mainland, more marked for Guyana compared to the Indian Ocean, decline for connections intra-overseas departments in the Indian Ocean, slight increase in the West Indian basin).
