Gulfstream Aerospace announced on November 20, 2023 the successful completion of the first transatlantic flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Carried out on November 19, the flight took place aboard a Gulfstream G600 aircraft, which left the company’s headquarters in Savannah to land 6 hours and 56 minutes later at Farnborough Airport in England.
A G600 over the Atlantic at 100% SAF
Gulfstream Aerospace announced on November 20, 2023 the successful completion of the first transatlantic flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Carried out on November 19, the flight took place aboard a Gulfstream G600 twin-engine business jet, which left the company’s headquarters in Savannah and landed 6 hours and 56 minutes later at Farnborough Airport in England. Powered by Pratt & Whitney PW815GA engines, both using 100% SAF, the data collected during this endurance flight will help Gulfstream and its key suppliers assess aircraft compatibility with future low aromatic renewable fuels, especially in cold weather and during long flight times.

The SAF fuel used for the flight was produced by World Energy and delivered by World Fuel Services. It was composed of 100% esters and hydrotreated fatty acids (pure HEFA), whose CO2 emissions over the entire life cycle are at least 70% lower than those of jet fuel of fossil origin, which helps reduce the impact of aviation on the climate. In addition, this fuel without added aromatics has a reduced impact on local air quality and a very low sulfur content, which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions other than CO which helps reduce environmental impacts other than CO2.
