First SETO recommendations following the earthquake near Marrakech

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred at 10:11 p.m. GMT 77 kilometers southwest of Marrakech. SETO would like to express its full support to the Moroccan people hard hit by this earthquake.

After consultation with all the operators planning the destination, all hotel and tourist infrastructure is operational; Air traffic at Marrakech airport resumed normally this morning. Of course, excursion arrangements can be put in place depending on the specific situations of certain areas.

The SETO (Union of Tour Operating Companies), recommends to its members the following provisions:

• For customers currently in the hotel structures of Marrakech: the programs continue to run and the tour operators provide, in close cooperation with their receptionists, all the necessary assistance to their customers who have not suffered, to our knowledge, any damage .

• For customers departing from the destination and until Monday September 11, 2023 inclusive, SETO recommends adopting the greatest commercial flexibility for customers who do not wish to leave given the local situation. In this respect, SETO reminds that if it is possible to offer deferrals and/or credits, customers have the right to refuse them in which case the Tourism Code applies.

• Obviously, these measures may be modified at any time depending on the evolution of the situation and in the interest of customers, travel agencies and tour operators.

• For affected trips, tour operators inform their customers as soon as possible. Tour operators are available to their customers and travel agencies to answer their questions and provide solutions to special cases.

An update of this internal recommendation will be made no later than September 11, 2023.
