Explora Journey I and II: luxury cruises on the agenda this summer

MSC Group’s luxury brand Explora Journeys hosted a coin award ceremony on Explora II at Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard near Genoa, Italy. The vessel will enter service in August 2024.

The centuries-old maritime ceremony has seen commemorative coins placed inside the ship as a sign of blessing during construction and good fortune in the future. The event brought together key executives including Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman, Cruise Division, MSC Group; Michael Ungerer, CEO, Explora Journeys; and Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri.

A ship for 461 suites

The line, which is the new luxury brand of MSC Group, also announced that Explora I will be inaugurated in Civitavecchia, Italy on July 8. The ship’s first cruise will be a 15-night itinerary from Southampton to Copenhagen on July 17. The ship will then transfer to Southampton, UK, for her maiden voyage on July 17 for a 15-night Northern Europe sail to Copenhagen, Denmark. Meanwhile, Explora II is set to debut in August. 2024.

Explora II in 2024

Between August 2024 and April 2025, Explora II will sail the Mediterranean Sea, the Middle East, the Indian Ocean and Africa, covering 82 ports in 26 countries. The ship will be equipped with 461 suites, penthouses and beachfront residences. It will further be equipped with six restaurants, 12 indoor and outdoor bars and lounges, four swimming pools, outdoor terraces with private cabanas, wellness facilities wellness and fitness, as well as refined entertainment and enrichment.
