The European Parliament’s Petitions Committee demands the right for all EU passengers to carry hand luggage free of charge. Parliament has therefore taken a historic decision and this measure should put an end to the pricing of hand baggage and aims to improve the passenger experience while making their travel easier.
The Commission voted yesterday, Wednesday 20/09, a resolution calling for the harmonization of measurements and weight of suitcases, so that all airlines operating in the EU use the same standards.
The text includes an express request to Member States to draw up a judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union which considers hand luggage to be an “indispensable element” of the passenger and, therefore, cannot be subject to a cost additional. Despite this decision, some airlines are still allowed to charge them.
