The summer of 2023 was a real success for Essaouira, the Moroccan city whose medina is listed as a UNESCO heritage site.
“Usually, Essaouira sees its population more than double in August, but this year, the destination tripled the number of tourists and of these, more than a third came from European countries,” we can read in a press release from the municipality of Essaouira.
In the Moroccan destination, there were around 300 thousand foreign arrivals. Essaouira is also ideal for those who practice sports like windsurfing and sailing.
“The increase in direct flights to Essaouira contributed significantly to this result – continues the press release – But according to many tourists, in addition to the legendary mildness of its climate in these heatwave times, the attractiveness of Essaouira can be explained by the cultural and artistic and especially musical offer with the Gnaoua Music Festival”.
