Westin Hotels & Resorts is opening the The Westin Xian on December 1, marking the entry of the Westin brand into the Shaanxi province of China.
The Westin Xian will be the first Westin Hotels & Resorts hotel in the world and the first hotel in Xi’an to have its own museum, which will pay tribute to the ancient history of China with a collection of more than 2,000 artifacts. Xi’an is close to where the world-famous Terracotta Army of soldier statues is located.
“The location of this hotel in one of the most important cities in Chinese history – Xi’an has often been lauded the national-history museum of China – also reinforces Westin’s positioning around personal renewal by offering guests the services, products and amenities that allow them to relax and rejuvenate during their stay,” says Magdy Anis, general manager of The Westin Xian.

Located a few miles from the site of the world-famous Terracotta Army vaults, The Westin Xian is the first Westin hotel in the world and the first hotel in Xian to have its own museum, which displays a collection of more than 2,000 ancient artifacts. These include a grouping of more than 80 Chinese mural paintings, the world’s only suit of armor crafted entirely from gold, and a rare stone Buddha head which measures nearly one meter high
Adds Anis: “With economic progress and industrial development in the last few years as well as a focus on developing Xi’an as a destination city, corporate and meetings demand in Xi’an has grown at a steady pace, in addition to the existing leisure demand. We are confident that the entry of Westin is timely and will serve to meet the growing room and meeting demands in this market.”
Located in the Qujiang Tourism District, the most upscale area of the city and once the site of the Royal Summer Garden of the Tang Dynasty, The Westin Xian sits directly opposite the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built more than 1,000 years ago.
The eastern terminus of the Silk Road, Xi’an is home to an ancient walled inner city which protects the famed Bell and Drum Towers.
Some 30 kilometers (18 miles) east of the city are the Terracotta Army vaults, which date back more than 2,000 years and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is minutes from Xi’an’s train station and 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Xi’an Xianyang International Airport.
The Westin Xian will feature 329 rooms and 32 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The accommodations are designed to feature soothing color tones, and each has a flat-screen LCD television, a rainforest shower, extra-large closets, a personal refreshment center, and Westin’s Heavenly bed.
A variety of dining experiences will also be on offer. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Seasonal Tastes will present menu creations using fresh produce and ingredients; Five Sen5es will specialize in innovative and traditional Cantonese dishes; at Mai, guests can taste contemporary Japanese cuisine; Daily Treats will serve coffee and light bites such as a gourmet sandwich; and the hotel’s Lobby Lounge will offer cocktaills and organic squeezed juices.
The Westin Xian will also offer a ‘SuperFoods Rx’ menu throughout the day, the menu featuring healthy food options made from ingredients which are considered the best for fighting disease and enhancing health.
Guests will also be able to use the WestinWORKOUT Gym, an indoor swimming pool, and the Heavenly Spa by Westin.
The hotel will also be the first Westin in the world to feature its own museum, which will display a collection of more than 2,000 artifacts. These will include a grouping of more than 80 Chinese mural paintings, the world’s only suit of armor crafted entirely from gold, and a rare stone Buddha head which measures nearly one meter high.
With more than 3,300 square meters of meeting space and three banquet spaces, The Westin Xian will provide a new destination for events. The hotel will offer a wide array of services, including Clutter-Free Meetings and in-room massages. A state-of-the-art business center and in-room wireless high speed internet access are also designed to meet the needs of today’s business traveler.
To celebrate its opening, The Westin Xian will be offering a special opening package. Guests are invited to book a one-night stay in a deluxe double room at a rate of CNY1180 ($168.90), the rate including a buffet breakfast for two and welcome amenities. This package is valid until February 29, 2012.
