25 GEnx-1Bs to equip China Eastern Airlines’ Boeing 787 fleet
China Eastern Airlines announced on November 6, 2023 an order for 25 GEnx-1B engines to equip its Boeing 787 fleet during the 6th China International Import Expo. The order also includes a long-term TrueChoiceTM services agreement. China Eastern Airlines has been a GEnx customer since 2018, when it first purchased 15 Boeing 787 aircraft powered by GEnx engines, along with the TrueChoiceTM services agreement.
3,000 engines in service and in order book
The GEnx engine family has more than 50 million flight hours since entering service in 2011 and represents nearly 3,000 engines in service and on the order book, including spare parts. Currently, six of the seven Chinese airlines that operate Boeing 787 fleets have chosen the GEnx engine. This engine equips more than 90% of Boeing 787s in China, totaling more than 6.8 million flight hours. The GEnx-1B equips two out of three 787 aircraft in service. According to the engine manufacturer, this engine also saves 1.4% in fuel for a typical 787 mission compared to its competitors. These additional fuel savings help reduce more than 2 million pounds of CO2 per aircraft each year.
