Alarming statements at the UN

On September 21, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, reaffirming China’s position that Taiwan is an integral part of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). He said no one should underestimate the determination and will of the Chinese people to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that Beijing will continue to work towards peaceful reunification.

Meanwhile, the PRC is intensifying its military pressure on Taiwan. The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense announced that it had detected 103 People’s Liberation Army (PLA) planes in its air defense zone in less than twenty-four hours, a record. Additionally, nine Chinese ships were spotted near the island.
