Camping: this sector has never attracted so many investors

European Camping Group (ECG), a company specializing in the mobile home holiday market, has finalized the acquisition for 1 billion euros of the French camping brand Vacanceselect Group.

ECG: the largest provider of outdoor accommodation

The deal sees ECG tripling its campsite portfolio to include 500 sites in France, Spain, Italy, Croatia and the Netherlands.

Several brands join the ECG group

ECG’s brand portfolio now includes Eurocamp, Camping Vision, Homair, Roan, Canvas Holidays And Vacationselect, while its portfolio of owned campsites was expanded by 100 premium parks, with Tohapi joining its existing brand Marvilla Parks. These campsites are known to families for their high quality mobile homes in 4-5 star holiday parks.

The two groups have received the approval of the French competition authorities for the operation initially announced last July. The newly improved holiday business now aims to reach a turnover of 700 million euros this year.

ECG is owned by an American company

ECG is owned by private equity firm PAI Partners, which acquired the Carlyle business four years ago. PAI Partners has also invested in Dutch holiday park company Roompot.

“But above all, it allows us to share best practices to improve the quality, accessibility and sustainability of our offer,” he added.

Campings.com has also benefited from the enthusiasm for outdoor tourism

camping holiday booking platform Campings.com had raised 27 million euros in financing and acquired its competitor Bungalow Booker.
