Brussels AirlinesBelgian airline and subsidiary of Lufthansa Grouptook delivery yesterday in Toulouse of the first of five new single-aisle aircraft A320neo ordered from the aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
The single-aisle aircraft registered OO-SBA, configured as a single class with 180 seats, has landed at Brussels Airport, where maintenance and engineering staff will carry out some final improvements to the aircraft in the coming weeks. The new A320neo will then join Brussels Airlines’ Airbus fleet of 43 aircraft, including 34 A320 family aircraft and nine A330-300s. Perfectly sized for the European market, the new aircraft will enter service on the Belgian airline’s short and medium-haul network.
“This aircraft represents a great moment of pride for the entire Brussels Airlines family and marks a new stage in our sustainability strategy. It is essential for us to modernize our fleet to reduce our carbon footprint. The A320neo significantly reduces noise and CO2 footprint compared to the current generation A320. We are pleased to receive the first brand new aircraft directly from Airbus in Toulouse, which will be followed by four more by the end of next year“, declared Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines.
The Airbus A320neo incorporates the latest technologies, including next-generation CFM International LEAP-1A engines for greater efficiency and Sharklets for improved aerodynamics, which together reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by at least 20 %. The new generation single-aisle also offers a 50 percent lower noise footprint compared to previous generation aircraft. With more than 9,700 orders from more than 130 customers worldwide, the A320 family is the most popular aircraft in the world.
